340B Improvement and Integrity Act Re-introduced in House of Representatives
Within days of the new Congress arriving in Washington, the SNHPA-endorsed 340B Improvement and Integrity Act of 2009 was introduced and assigned bill number H.R. 444 in the House. The bill was introduced by representatives Rush (D-IL), Emerson (R-MO) and Stupak (D-MI). The Senate version of the bill will be introduced in the coming months.
The bipartisan legislation would make a number of 340B improvements, such as extending the program to the inpatient setting and expanding it to rural and children's hospitals. It would also make other important improvements to the program such as allowing 340B facilities to contract with multiple pharmacies to improve access to pharmaceutical care.
Now is the time to urge your representative to sign on as a co-sponsor of H.R. 444. Remember, even if your member of Congress co-sponsored this legislation last year, you should request that he or she do so again as co-sponsorships do not carry over from one Congress to the next.
With a flurry of health care bills expected to move through Congress soon, it is important to increase the number of co-sponsors of the bill as quickly as possible.
